Is Concrete Sandblasting Right For Your Project?
Is concrete sandblasting the right choice for your surface preparation project? Let’s discuss the many benefits blasting concrete can have and how it can save you time and money whilst providing a wonderfully prepared surface for coating to be applied to or simply to have a non-slip, exposed aggregate surface.
First we will touch on the sandblasting process. We arrive to your site with our fully equipped mobile sandblast truck after liaising with architects, builders and foreman alike to determine how heavy a blast is required, be it light medium or heavy. Often times we will provide a small sample to give our clients a visual representation of what each degree of blast looks and feels like. Once a degree of blasting has been determined our crew will setup the on-site blasting unit ready to start the works. All our processes adhere to WHS/OHS. Before arrival on site our technicians will provide relevant person/s our site specific SWMS for your review. A safety audit will be conducted upon arrival and our SWMS will be signed by our crew before begin.
Sandblasting concrete has many benefits and is used in a number of ways across worksites in Sydney. Some of the key reasons sandblasting is used on concrete is to remove paint, expose the aggregate, to create a non-slip P4 rating surface or to prepare concrete before it is painted to promote a strong adhesion bond.
Paint Removal/Surface Preparation
Sandblasting is a very quick and cost effective method to remove coatings from concrete surface and is able to remove thick and thin coatings alike. Not only will sandblasting concrete remove all coatings from the surface but it will also prepare the surface for new coatings to be applied if that is the desired finish.
Aggregate Exposure
Varying levels of aggregate exposure can be achieved using our sandblasting technologies for an aesthetically pleasing finish. Very similar to a washed concrete finish however often times said to look a lot “smarter and cleaner”.
Stencil Designs
With the use of laser or water cut mild steel stencils any words, numbers or designs can be etched into concrete and other rock surfaces such as but not limited to bluestone, granite, marble etc. This is a very common practice in parks, when displaying company logos or for heritage interpretation works.
Non-Slip P4 Slip Rating
Abrasive Blasting methods are the method of choice when a P4 or other slip ratings are required in areas such as shopping centres, council walkways, steep driveways etc without leaving nasty grind or scarification marks.
Our concrete sandblasting methods can be done using either wet or dry blasting technologies depending upon the requirements of the site. Busy sites or areas that are heavier in pedestrian activity will generally required a wet blasting approach in order to minimise the dust and contain the spent abrasive.
